Roof Color Visualizer: See a New Roof on Your Own House
A roof is a large part of what you see from the street, and a shingle sample in your hand looks nothing like a whole roof. Upload a photo of your house and see it with a new roof color or material. The studio below is set to change the roof covering only.

Roof colors and materials to try
Each idea hands the studio a roof brief. After you upload a photo you can edit the words, for example to name a different color.
Charcoal architectural shingles
The safest choice: a dark gray that suits white, gray, blue and most brick houses, with the depth of dimensional shingles.
Black shingles
Crisp with white or light gray siding and black window frames: the modern farmhouse roof. Black shows less contrast on a dark house.
Weathered wood brown shingles
A brown and gray blend for warm siding, tan brick and stone: it reads softer than a solid gray roof.
Black standing seam metal
Long, clean vertical seams: popular on modern farmhouses and over porches. A metal roof can also be dark bronze, gray or a bold color.
Terracotta clay tile
Curved clay tiles for Mediterranean and Spanish style houses. Clay is heavy: a roofer should confirm the structure can carry it.
Gray slate
Natural slate, or a synthetic slate look, for traditional, colonial and Tudor houses: flat tiles with a fine texture.
How to choose a roof color
The roof lasts longer than any paint color, so it is worth a few checks.
- Roof and walls togetherContrast reads crisp, like a black roof over white siding; similar tones read calm, like a brown roof over tan brick. Decide which you want before you compare shades.
- Sun and heatA light roof reflects more sun than a dark one, so the attic under it can stay cooler in hot summers. Where summers are hot, ask roofers about cool roof rated colors.
- Your street and its rulesLook along the street, and check any homeowners association rules: some neighborhoods limit roof colors or materials.
- The shape staysThis page changes the covering and keeps the roof's shape. A new roofline, dormers or a porch roof are design changes: try AI exterior design for those.
How to use the roof color visualizer
Photograph the whole roof
Stand across the street in daylight so the whole roof is in the frame, from the ridge to the gutters. Close up, a low roof shows only its edge.
Pick a roof idea, or describe your own
Choose a color and material on this page, or describe your own. Under Keep, the roofline is always kept, so the shape of the roof stays.
Generate and compare
Each design uses 1 credit, and a guest gets 3 free credits a day. Drag the slider to compare it with your photo, then try another idea on the same photo.
